Boxers from Dagestan and Azerbaijan disqualified for brawl at students' world championship in Baku

These days, the Sports Palace in Baku is housing the World Boxing Championship among students. The fight in the ring between a Russian Shigabuddin Aliev from Dagestan and an Azerbaijani boxer Teymur Mamedov ended in a scandal; they both were disqualified for a brawl.

On November 14, the fight of the European champion in the weight category of 91 kg Teymur Mamedov, a bronze medallist at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, against Shigabuddin Aliev was stopped by the referee.

In the first round Aliev kicked Mamedov's leg with his knee; and then they started a brawl. The boxers took no note of the gong and continued beating each other, the "Azerisport.com" reports.

"The First News" adds that as a result, both were disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The championship has attracted boxers from nine countries – Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Estonia, Ukraine and Moldova – 51 athletes in total.
