Armenian citizen convicted of espionage in favour of Azerbaijan stops hunger strike

Ashot Chtrkyan, a prisoner at the "Nubarashen", has stopped his hunger strike, said the spokesman of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.

Mr Chtrkyan went on hunger strike on November 5, demanding to reconsider his unfair, as he believed, verdict. The hunger strike lasted for seven days and was stopped on November 14. At the beginning, Ashot Chtrkyan promised to hold the action until his demands were satisfied.

The reason for termination of the hunger strike is not related to the health of Ashot; he feels good, said Gor Glechyan, the Head of Public Relations of the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia Gore, the "Armtoday" reports.

It is unknown whether the prisoner's demands have been satisfied.

Ashot Chtrkyan was found guilty of treason; and on April 6 the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison. He is resented with the fact that he was not allowed to present a petition of appeal, as the edition "Panarmenian" writes with reference to the Chtrkyan's defender Arutyun Bagdasaryan.
