Stavropol Territory punishes school officials who banned hijabs

In the Neftekumsk District of the Stavropol Territory, following the results of inspection, held by the Prosecutor's Office, five staff members of the school, in which girls from Muslim families were prohibited to wear hijabs, were brought to disciplinary responsibility.

In early October, several residents of the village of Kara-Tyube filed to the Prosecutor's Office a complaint that their daughters were not allowed to attend classes with hijabs on their heads. As a result, the girls, whose parents complained to the Prosecutor's Office, put on headscarves and returned to classes. The residents of the village of Kara-Tyube filed a lawsuit against the school No. 12, and the Prosecutor's Office initiated inspection at the educational institution.

"The Chief of the Educational Division of the district administration has received instructions to take specific measures, aimed at eliminating the facts and bringing the guilty persons, responsible for educational work at the educational institution, to disciplinary responsibility," states the report of the Prosecutor's Office.

"Instructions on the elimination of violations have been presented, and five officials have been brought to disciplinary responsibility," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the representative of the Prosecutor's Office.

However, today, it was reported that the "Congress of Russian Communities" and the Cossacks decided to take under their protection the Principal of the school in the village of Kara-Tyube. Earlier, Marina Savchenko, Principal of the school, claimed receiving threats. The Cossacks and members of the "Congress of Russian Communities" have provided Marina Savchenko with two lawyers and bodyguards, the agency "Novy Region" (New Region) reports.
