Workers of the sea-port in Poti, Georgia, went on a strike

About two hundred workers of the sea-port in Poti went on a strike demanding improvement of working conditions, observance of safety regulations and deserved salary.

Workers of moorages No 14 and 4 went on a strike today after the administration ignored their demands and dismissed some of their colleagues after yesterday's action of protest.

According to the strikers, they have no elementary working conditions: the port is not equipped with toilets and showers, the workers have no lunch breaks. They must also stay in the port even if there is no work to do. On the average, they have to work 120 hours a month with a salary of 4 lari per hour. Besides, the protesters state that they have not received wages for already seven months, "Georgia Online" reports.

The workers are not going to return to their working places and demand negotiations with the management, "InterPressnews" reports.

"Work was suspended. Representatives of the management have not been contacting us for already two days. The actions will last until our demands are granted", one of the strikers Avtandil Tuntia declared.
