In Kabardino-Balkaria, 43 people fell victim to armed conflict in the first quarter of 2012

In January, February and March 2012, in the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria, at least 43 people fell victim to the ongoing North-Caucasian armed conflict, including 32 casualties and at least 11 wounded persons. These are the results of calculations, made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

The death toll includes two civilians, six policemen and 24 people, involved, according to law enforcement bodies, in the armed underground.

The list of those wounded includes two civilians, seven law enforcers and at least two members of the armed underground, as considered by the authorities. The wounds of the latter two became known, since they were detained.

It should be taken into consideration that the above mentioned statistics cannot be hundred-per-cent precise about the number of victims in any of the specified categories. The news reports do not cover all the data. It is not always possible to verify how much the statements of law enforcement bodies correspond with reality.

Let us note here that in 2011 in Kabardino-Balkaria at least 173 people fell victim of the armed conflict, including 129 casualties and 44 wounded persons. The death toll includes 80 persons declared as militants, 31 law enforcers and 18 civilians.

The number of those killed in the republic in 2011 more than doubled compared to 2010. Then, the number of victim to the armed conflict in Kabardino-Balkaria was 161 persons, among whom 79 were killed and 82 wounded. During 2011, the count of victims went up to 173 persons, including 129 killed and 44 wounded.
