Conflict in Georgian Parliament

A conflict situation between deputies of Armenian and Azerbaijan nationalities sprang up at yesterday?s session of the Georgian Parliament, that became a reason for provisional cessation of the legislative organ activity. The conflict arose after the Armenian Deputy Hamlet Movsesian had appealed to the parliamentarians to keep the minute of silence in memory of victims of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. The Azerbaijan Deputy Ali Yuzbashayev expressed a protest in connection with this appeal and said Movsesian had to think about Georgia, but not about the problems of the neighbouring country. Until the session of the parliament was interrupted, the deputies by the suggestion of the speaker Nino Burdjanadze had kept a minute of silence in memory of people of all nationalities guiltlessly perished in the Caucuses region and other countries.
