Opposition party leader Panakhly sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment in Azerbaijan

Today, the Nasimin District Court of Baku, chaired by Judge Elman Akhmedov, has completed the trial of Neimat Panakhly, the leader of the Party of National Statehood of Azerbaijan. He was found guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and sentenced to six years in prison.

Mr Panakhly saw charges under Articles 221.3 (hooliganism with a weapon or an object used as a weapon) and 127.2.3 (causing less grave harm to one's health in a generally dangerous way, committed from hooligan intentions) of the local Criminal Code.

The other figurant in this case – Panakhly's comrade Djeikhun Farzaliev – received a four-year term under Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
