Bandits attack Krasnodar ecologist Gazaryan in Khimki Forest

In the morning on May 6, Suren Gazaryan, a Member of the Board of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" was attacked by unidentified persons in the Khimki Forest near Moscow. The ecologist received minor injuries and wrote an application to the police.

In answer to the questions of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Suren Gazaryan explained that in the morning, he and other ecologists were in the camp in Khimki Forest near the fire. There were no more than five persons left, since at night they were attacked, and many activists are in hospitals.

"Five persons went out of the forest: one of them was in a suit with the picture of skeleton with a skull, another one was in camouflage; the rest of them were in black clothes. I followed them on the bike to see where they go, but they noticed me and rushed to my side. They knocked me to the ground and began beating and kicking the entire body; and then the broke the bicycle," said Gazaryan. According to the ecologist, his nose and leg were hurt.

After that, according to Gazaryan, he tried to follow the unknowns, but they fled. "Immediately after the attack, I called the police, which appeared only by lunch; but that was in answer to the call made at night after the previous attack. They said they had detained several night attackers," said Gazaryan.

He explained that the ecologists' camp was opened in the Khimki Forest in order to prevent the works and tree cutting. "The point is that the Khimki Forest is a precedent," said Suren Gazaryan. "Besides, the federal government and many ecological organizations are quite close from here." According to his story, he came to the place near Moscow because of solidarity with his colleagues; and he will stay for a couple of days more in the camp. "More people will come, and the situation will stabilize," he said.
