Law Is Superior to Power public organization summing up action of protest in Vladikavkaz
We call your attention to some extracts from the leaflet "Is Power Superior to Law? Or Distressing Results of the Human Rights Action (from September 30 to November 30)" by participants of the protest action on Svoboda Square in Vladikavkaz.
For two months, twenty-four hours a day, the termless human rights action of law-enforcement officers from the Law Is Superior to Power public organization, who are asserting their constitutional rights, have been going on. For all this time attempts have been made and are still being made to get rid of the picket by any means.
On the very first day of our action, the republican mass media received instructions not to cover the events happening under the very nose of the Government of the Republic of North Osetia - Alania. And they keep on following these instructions conscientiously.
The ruling United Russia party, the leader of which, unfortunately, combined and combines his job with that one of our minister, persists in lobbying our problem in the State Duma. And the President of Russia persists in pretending he is not in the know of what is happening, and it is gradually becoming a norm.
In this short period of time, we have made requests to the President more than five times already asking him to look into the matter and take necessary measures.
Moreover, we have addressed our petitions to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the Supreme Court of Arbitration of the Russian Federation (we have already received its reply), the Russian Ministry of Justice (the reply of it we also have), and the Federation Council's Committee on Constitutional Legislation and Judicial and Legal Issues. We are looking forward to the replies, which are to come any day now.
In spite of threats, hunger and cold, in spite of humiliations and insults, we continue our action in the name of the triumph of the Law over the functionaries' high-handedness.
The participants in the human rights action are tired, of course, both morally and physically. But we are not going to give up yet.
Our fight for the observance of the Law will not end with this action. After it we will go to judicial bodies demanding that we are paid off the debts in daily allowances, sanatorium and resort payments, and intended pensions, which were ignored by our "generous" accountants when calculating compensation payments for us.
