Memorial presents book about Chechnya

On November 29, Saturday, a presentation of books by the Memorial Society will take place at the press center of the Central House of Painters. There will also be a discussion devoted to the problems of historical memory and human rights in today's Russia. Tatyana Bek, Lev Rubinshtein, Aleksey Simonov, and Lyudmila Ulitskaya will be participants in the discussion. Memorial's books will be presented at stand H2.

The society will present:

Three-volume edition "Man in History. Russia - 20th Century", includes the best of 6,000 research works by Russian pupils who participated in Memorial's historical contest. Young people discourse upon different sides of the Russian history, analyzing the experience of preceding generations. Russia's historical memory is kept in these works by the authors, who collected unique interviews and memoirs, letters and photos;

"Women-Prisoners of ALZHIR", includes brief biographies of 7,259 women-prisoners of the renowned Akmolinsk camp for parricide's wives;

"Here Live People. Chechnya: the Chronicle of Violence. Part 1 - July-December 2000", contains information gathered by the Human Rights Center "Memorial" about a situation in the armed conflict zone in the Chechen Republic;

"Working Days", collected articles by Galina Kovalskaya nominated for the Sakharov Prize.

  • Defender of Sochi gardeners' rights claims illegal prosecution

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
