Shower rains cause floods and landslips in Eastern Georgia

Heavy drenches in the region Mtskheta-Tianeti (Eastern Georgia) have caused landslips and landslides of mountain slopes. Mountain rivers overflowed the banks and flooded a number of villages, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In the village of Mleta, Dushet District, a landslip rushed down near the local church and flooded several nearby houses.

Problems caused by storm rains could be observed near Gremiskhevi village and on the mountain pass, where they now make clearing. Same in Tserovani village, Mtskheta District, where refugees from South Ossetia were compactly accommodated: the Narekvavi River has flooded adjacent houses.

A similar situation has onset in the Caspian zone of the Shida Kartli District. Torrential rains forced the Lekhura River out of its banks and flooded the villages of Samtavisi, Kvemo Chala and Bozhami. In total, about 30 houses and 40 hectares of arable land were flooded; grain crops were ruined. Also, Lamiskana village and some 30 hectares of crops were flooded.

In the Akhmet District of Kakhetia, in the Ilto Gorge, a landslip went down from mountain slopes in Naduknari and Chartali villages, blocking the only road from there to the district centre. At the same time, the water level in the river went up to a dangerous level, threatening to flood all the villages of the Gorge.
