Workshop "Journalist's Rights and Juridical Aspects of Responsibility" took place at Sukhumi Media Club
The workshop was led by lawyer Boris Panteleyev, an expert of the Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations (Moscow). The participants discussed problems of journalist' "safety measures", theoretical and practical aspects of getting access to information. Panteleyev told about the experience of Russian human rights organizations, philosophical and legal foundations of "active non-violence", and specific methods for journalists' counteracting censorship.
The workshop participants, journalists from both independent and national media, discussed different forms of "non-violence" they can use in their work. While speaking on specific journalistic forms of non-violence, Boris Panteleyev explained he meant "various actions and campaigns, designed actions of all kinds aimed at solving concrete tasks, first of all, at protecting journalists' professional rights, supporting colleagues and guarantees of freedom of speech as a whole."
