Federal national and cultural autonomy of Chechens was founded in Karachaevo-Cherkessia
A regular conference of the regional national and cultural autonomy of Chechens in the Republic of Karachaevo-Cherkessia took place in Cherkessk on October 18, 2003. The organization's status was on the agenda.
It is worth reminding that the regional national and cultural autonomy of Chechens in the Republic of Karachaevo-Cherkessia was founded on March 7, 2002.
The decision about reorganization of the regional autonomy into a federal one was made in order to make it possible to get financing from the federal center. The participants of the conference elected chairman of the federal national and cultural autonomy and confirmed 15 members of its presidium. Representatives of Chechen Diasporas from different subjects of the Russian Federation will be invited as members of the presidium.
There are 59 regions in the country where Chechens live in places of compact residence.
As it was claimed, the federal national and cultural autonomy of Chechens will be engaged in solving problems of not only Chechens, but of all the displaced persons from Chechnya, regardless of their nationality. It will advocate preservation of the language, national culture and originality of the nation.
