Mirian Patarkatsishvili: members of the commission studying circumstances of death of ex-president of Georgia are threatened

An unidentified person is threatening to apply physical violence to the members of the interim parliamentary commission that was set up for studying the circumstances of the death of the first president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia, should the commission goes on with their work. This was stated by Mirian Patarkatsishvili, a member of the political movement "Freedom", at a special press conference held on November 17.

"An anonymous call was made to Konstantin Gamsakhurdia on November 14. The calling person warned that if the commission did not stop the investigation, all the persons, who contacted the commission would be physically liquidated," said Mr Patarkatsishvili.

An assumption was made public at the press conference that the telephone call could have to do with the murder of Tamaz Ninua, a former high-ranking official of state security, who was found murdered together with his wife in his own apartment. "Ninua was going to hand over various materials connected with Zviad Gamsakhurdia's death to the commission," said Patarkatsishvili.

The political movement "Freedom", also headed by Konstantin Gamsakhurdia, prepares an application to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and is going to achieve initiation of investigation, in order to avoid threats to commission members in the further.

The interim commission for studying the circumstances of Zviad Gamsakhurdia's death started its work on November 10; it includes 11 MPs - members of the deputies - representatives of party in power - "United National Movement" - and the opposition.

Let us note here that in Konstantin Gamsakhurdia's opinion, the former president of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze is guilty of the death of his father.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already reported that Konstantin Gamsakhurdia is going to quit his MP status and the post of the chairman of the commission for investigating the death of the first president of the country Zviad Gamsakhurdia, if the status of the commissions is not increased. In his opinion, only granting the status of the "investigatory" to the commission will force figurants of the investigated case to give mandatory answers to the questions asked by the commission.
