Rally in memory of events of October 2005 held in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria

Today in Nalchik, the Concord Square hosted a rally in memory of the law enforcers who fell victim of terrorists on October 13, 2005.

The event started at midday with a minute of silence. Then, President of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov emphasized that the tragedy on October 13 was still heavier, as "our people" were lost. He has said that the republic's leaders are doing everything possible to escape any relapse of the tragedy.

Film director Nikita Mikhalkov, who also took part in the rally, has noted in his speech that "a Russian officer is not the one who is a Russian by birth, but the one who sworn to Russia." Mr Mikhalkov has emphasized that for Russia the Caucasus is one of the most precious brilliants. "No Caucasus - no Russia," he said. In the opinion of the famous film author, the people who forget their past and those who gave their life for them have no future.

Theophan, Archbishop of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz, said: "My God Merciful! You have created the world and split it into languages and religions!" Addressing to "advocates of dividing people into believers and disbelievers," Father Theophan asked: "Has the Lord divided the Sun into sectors - more to some and less to others?"

Then, the Archbishop addressed the youth: "Whoever addresses you, sowing seeds of enmity, tell him no." He has also added that "only in accord and unity one can find the God in his or her soul."

In the opinion of Mufti Anas-Hadji Pshikhachov, head of the Spiritual Department of Moslems of Kabardino-Balkaria, it is "still a lot of unclear in what happened" four years ago.

Asiyat Kyarova, widow of the Hero of Russia Anatoly Kyarova, said that "losing relatives is very hard, and to live with it is still harder."

"Our radiant religion has been so much profaned that it has turned out into terrible force," Ms Kyarova believes. She called all the people to unite and struggle with terror by joint efforts.

On behalf of all the families of perished law enforcers she thanked the leaders of the republic for making October 13 a memorial date.

On that very day, in the mini-park near the prosecutor's office mother of the victims from among the attackers gathered. They stood with photos of the lost sons.

In the opinion of Lydia Zhelikhazheva, no essential changes in relation to Moslems have happened. They are reluctantly employed and "when an explosion or something similar happens somewhere, a district militiaman visits them."

Maya Karmova said that these four years have not soothed the pain, with which they are forced to live now. "It was an extraordinary case, but there was no public or deputy's investigation. We were not given out the bodies for burial. Why we - mothers - were punished? In fact, we're part of the society, and we work in this society."
