Human kidnappings continue in Chechnya

In the early hours of April 18 Russian soldiers in three armored personnel carriers rounded up the houses of Mansur Dzhaubatyrov, 20, and his acquaintance Aslan, in Grozny. According to parents of the detained, the military forced the young men into an armored personnel carrier and took them away. The servicemen did not bother to introduce themselves or give reasons for the detention.

The Russian-Chechen Friendship Society said the parents of the two young Chechens appealed to authorities to find their children and explain the reason for their arrest. In their complain to the prosecutor?s office, the parents stressed that if their boys have been engaged in some crimes they should, in compliance with the law, be tried in court. Such request is explained by the fact that persons suspected of involvement in combat actions frequently disappear without trace after this sort of detentions.

The Society?s office in Ingushetia cites as an example a complaint received from Zabu Ibragimova, a resident of the regional central town of Achkhoi-Martan. Her husband, 46-year-old Movlid Ibragimov, was detained by Russian servicemen in March of last year. The federals came in two military UAZ vehicles. After they took Ibragimov, they moved towards the village of Katyr-Yurt. Same day his relatives reported the incident to the prosecutor?s office, military commandant?s office, district departments of the Federal Security Service, or FSB, police, the government in Grozny and other instances. However, Ibragimov?s whereabouts remain unknown so far.
